Thursday, April 10, 2025 I Sixth Judicial District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that DANIEL LOPEZ, 32, was held without bond in a pre-trial detention hearing today by Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Thomas F. Stewart in Grant County, New Mexico. LOPEZ is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance [4th Degree Felony], Tampering with Evidence [4th Degree Felony], and Resisting Evading or Obstruction an Officer, a misdemeanor. Judge Stewart stated during the detention hearing that LOPEZ is likely to continue to commit new crimes and concern that he may not appear in Court. “LOPEZ has demonstrated by his actions that no conditions of release will not protect the community from him,” said Judge Stewart. The prosecutor representing the state is Deputy District Attorney Matthew Bradburn from the Silver City DA’s office.
On April 6, 2025, LOPEZ was arrested on a bench warrant during an active warrant round-up. Police observed Lopez together with another person of interest seated in a brown Toyota Supra, upon approach, officers saw clear baggies containing a white crystal substance and weighing scales consistent with the trafficking of drugs. Both men were ordered to exit the vehicle, with LOPEZ resisting arrest, resulting in the officer drawing his weapon. The vehicle was impounded, and a search warrant was issued.
LOPEZ has an active criminal case history with charges stemming from a burglary of a pawn shop filed on October 13, 2024. He is facing charges of Agg Burglary, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, 3 misdemeanors and a petty misdemeanor. LOPEZ was arrested again on March 14, 2025, he was charged with Trafficking Controlled Substance [Possession with Intent to Distribute], Tampering with Evidence Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Evading or Obstruction an Officer. The Court issued a Bench Warrant on March 26, 2025 for failure to appear and LOPEZ was taken into custody on April 6, 2025, and is facing new charges (above) from that arrest.
